MD Public Works Committee Approves Monorail I-270 Study

The Maryland Board of Public Works voted 2 to 1 Wednesday to allow the state to solicit private companies to build and operate toll lanes on Interstate 270 and the Capital Beltway as part of Gov. Larry Hogan’s plan to ease traffic congestion in the Washington suburbs.

The Public Works committee voted to allow the state to solicit companies interested in a public private partnership agreement to build and operate new highway lanes in the Washington suburbs. Part of an amendment introduced by Peter Franchot included a feasability study for monorail along the I-270 corridor as well as the free use of new lanes by local buses.
